Friends of Jubilee Country Park - What we do!

Conservation work: hedge-laying , cutting back overgrowing vegetation, installing signs & gates, pond clearance & creation, opening up glades & rides, painting picnic tables, litter-picking, removing graffiti and much more besides!

Monitoring flora and fauna : Weekly butterfly transects are undertaken during the summer months to monitor butterfly numbers & species seen. Wildflower surveys are undertaken. Reptiles, amphibians, small mammals & bats are monitored. The Friends also work in partnership with Bromley RSPB who record birds seen in the park & check our bird boxes.

Walks and Talks: We have a variety of Friends who lead walks in the Park throughout the year, in addition to those lead by our Countryside Officer. Walks in the past have included those on Butterflies, Birds, Wildflowers, History, Tree Recognition, Lichens, Fungi and walks looking at changes in the seasons. We also have at least three talks a year on a wide variety of natural history subjects. In the past these have included-Birds, Badgers, Foxes, Meerkats, Hedgehogs and even Orang-utans!

Researching and recording the History of the Park: A considerable amount of work has been undertaken to record as much as possible about the Park’s history . As a result, it has even featured on a Channel 4 Television Documentary called “The Real Dad’s Army” about the role the Home Guard played during World War II.

Promoting Jubilee Country Park: .The Friends regularly attend events outside the Park to let people know what we do. These include the Petts Wood May Fayre, High Elms Open Day & Bromley High School Christmas Market.

Fund Raise: To improve the park’s facilities we raise funds with the sale of products

Acting as a pressure group: If there are issues concerning the Park which we feel need action on, we make sure something gets done!

Have fun! There is always a lot of laughter at our events and activities .
